TRADITION AND PROGRESS: Our History and Our Future!

Grange School is more than a primary and secondary school; it is a learning community in which pupils, teachers and even parents work and learn together. Becoming a tradition takes time; staying a tradition takes hard work. We have been touching and nurturing young lives for forty-eight years.

Grange operates as a not-for-profit, co-educational, English curriculum, independent, day school set on beautiful grounds within the Government Reservation Area – GRA, Ikeja, on the mainland part of Lagos in Nigeria. Our spacious campus includes well maintained facilities which create an attractive environment for learning.

Founded in 1958 by a group of well-meaning British expatriates, to provide education of equivalent standard to that which obtains in the UK, the primary school prepares pupils for the English National Curriculum Standard Attainment Tests – Key Stages 1 and 2. As part of the 40th anniversary in September 1998, the Board felt it was time to add on a secondary school for continuity and stability in the education of the pupils. The secondary school therefore continues into Key Stages 3 and 4 and culminates in the IGCSE – International General Certificate of Secondary Education, under the auspices of University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate (UCLES).

Ultimately, Grange School’s population is projected as 420 girls and boys in the primary from Reception class to Year 6, between the ages of 4+ to 11 and 300 pupils in the secondary, Year 7 to Year 11, between the ages of 11+ and 16+, with class sizes of 20 but not larger than 22. We have chosen to retain this size because we believe in maintaining a family ethos in the school and at Grange every child is a known individual. We take pride in our enduring legacy for the provision of a child oriented atmosphere and our aim is to promote matured matured self-discipline.

Grange encourages every pupil to discover her/his strengths, whether they are academic, sporting, musical or creative. Academic standards are a priority, but we also believe that by educating the whole child we can bring out the best in each and every one. Part of being you is learning to think. Our pupils are challenged to question, analyze and debate, forming their own opinions, yet upholding an attitude of repect towards others.

A sustained programme of building has ensured superb facilities in all disciplines. The most recent addition to the school is the 2nd phase of the secondary school building which will house the whole-school library, school cafeteria as well as 2 ICT laboratories and 1 additional science laboratory, a design and technology room and many other subject rooms.

The new Primary School building is complete and we were to take occupation in time for the 2005 / 2006 academic year. We have also taken occupation of the new library. A ultra modern hall, dinning room, and sports centre is also wanned for the future. however, before starting such a huge project the school includes equiping all areas of our curriculum with the most modern facilities and technology. This will also include the refurbishing the recent facilities.

A prospectus can never be sufficient to tell you about Grange. We urge you to come and see the school. You can call on telephone or send an e-mail to arrange a visit and meet with the principal. You are assured of a warm welcome.
